Smash: Clear Downward Angle
Hitting a shuttlecock high to low, in front of you, with a clear downward angle. The shot that drops fast.

Master the smash with a sharp downward angle, to finish or to open up attacking opportunities.
The Context
The smash is the primary offensive shot. When executed well, it puts immediate pressure on the opponent. When executed poorly (too flat, bent arm, no follow-through), it becomes an easy gift to counter-attack.
The Concept
Three elements make a good smash:
- Hit IN FRONT of the head (never above): this is what creates the downward angle.
- Arm extended at impact: maximizes speed and steepness.
- Immediate follow-through: go to the net after the smash to finish, never stay rooted.
The jump smash adds even more angle, but requires greater mastery of aerial timing.
To avoid: hitting above the head (loss of angle), bent arm at impact, staying rooted after the smash instead of moving to the net.
How This Course Is Structured
We first work on the pure motion (without a target), then with a step and hip rotation, then the smash from the backcourt, then the jump smash, and finally the smash + net follow-through sequence.
To Go Further
- Attacking S4 Style — to integrate the smash into an offensive strategy.
- Body-centered attacks — to gain efficiency.

Who is this badminton course for?+
This course targets the club player ready to take a technical step up. The selection of drills, the targeted observables and the AI's feedback tone are calibrated to that level — neither too basic nor too technical.
How long does it take to complete?+
The course is structured in 5 steps of video drills. Total estimated time on-court is around 6 minutes spread across multiple sessions — most users complete it over 2 to 4 weeks at the rate of 1 to 2 sessions per week.
What will I actually learn?+
The course focuses on smash, post-attack combinations and finishing placement. Each step isolates one observable (a measurable aspect of the stroke or movement), films your reps, and the AI scores you with a personalized improvement axis.
Do I need a partner or coach?+
All steps in this course require a partner — either to feed shuttles in a controlled rhythm or to play themed exchanges. The AI replaces the coach's eye for technical feedback — you stay in control of when and how you train.
How much does it cost?+
The first step is free (STARTER plan). Unlocking the rest requires a BASIC subscription at €9/month — unlimited courses, no commitment.
