Reverse Slice: Racket on One Side, Shuttlecock on the Other

Hit the shuttlecock forehand with the racket face turned outwards (the opposite of a classic slice). The apparent movement goes in one direction, but the shuttlecock goes in the other.

Why this course

Master the reverse slice (racket face turned outwards) to send the shuttlecock opposite to its apparent movement and deceive the opponent who anticipates the classic slice.

Theory

The Context

The reverse slice is the ultimate surprise weapon. Where the classic slice turns the racket face inwards (cross-court shot), the reverse slice does the opposite: racket face turned outwards, the shuttlecock goes in the OPPOSITE direction to the apparent movement of the racket. Well-prepared, it sends the opponent the wrong way.

Caution: the reverse slice remains a forehand shot, not a backhand. The slice and reverse slice are TWO different forehand shots.

The Concept

  • Racket face turned outwards at the last moment.
  • Apparent motion suggests a cross-court shot, but the shuttlecock goes parallel.
  • Preparation identical to the classic slice: this is what creates maximum deception.
  • Forearm rotation rather than forced wrist.

To avoid: confusing it with the backhand slice — here we stay on the forehand, taking a different preparation from the classic slice (loss of surprise), forcing the wrist (the motion comes from forearm rotation), or the shuttlecock going out (racket face too open).

How this Course is Structured

The course has 4 stages (no useful intermediate variant): slow reverse slice (to feel the inverted contact), reverse-sliced drop shot with target, alternating slice/reverse slice with identical preparation, and in-match application.

To Go Further

  • Forehand slice — the basic skill to master before tackling the reverse.
  • Varying backcourt shots — for the overall mix with smash, drop shot, clear.

Frequently asked
Who is this badminton course for?+

This course targets the competitive player refining their game under pressure. The selection of drills, the targeted observables and the AI's feedback tone are calibrated to that level — neither too basic nor too technical.

How long does it take to complete?+

The course is structured in 4 steps of video drills. Total estimated time on-court is around 4 minutes spread across multiple sessions — most users complete it over 2 to 4 weeks at the rate of 1 to 2 sessions per week.

What will I actually learn?+

The course focuses on the technical and tactical foundations: grip, ready position, fundamental strokes and game reading. Each step isolates one observable (a measurable aspect of the stroke or movement), films your reps, and the AI scores you with a personalized improvement axis.

Do I need a partner or coach?+

All steps in this course require a partner — either to feed shuttles in a controlled rhythm or to play themed exchanges. The AI replaces the coach's eye for technical feedback — you stay in control of when and how you train.

How much does it cost?+

The first step is free (STARTER plan). Unlocking the rest requires a BASIC subscription at €9/month — unlimited courses, no commitment.
