Why this course

Serve a low, short serve to Z0 and Z1 to force the receiver into a natural backhand return, and thus prepare the 3rd shot in a favorable situation.

Theory

The Context

The serve in men's singles is a crucial moment: statistically, the serving player wins fewer rallies than the receiver. It is therefore essential to master serves that put pressure on the return. Short serves Z0 (at the T) and Z1 (close to the T) provoke a return with a backhand orientation of the racket face.

The Concept

A good low, short serve must:

  • Pass low over the net (immediate descent)
  • Reach the target zone with precision (T or slightly off-center)
  • Have an identical preparation between Z0 and Z1 to avoid telegraphing
  • Allow the server to immediately follow up with an offensive posture

OTTHN emphasize the importance of mastering at least 4 different serves in MS; Z0 and Z1 are the foundations.

How This Course Is Structured

The course first works on precision and lowness in Z0 in isolation, then in Z1, then on alternation. The final stages test the serve under the pressure of an effective return and the 3rd shot.

To Go Further

  • Long, flat serve Z4-Z5 — the complementary variation weapon.
  • S-3 and S-5 sequences — exploiting the provoked return.
  • MD strategic zone serve — adapting to the MD double court.

Frequently asked
Who is this badminton course for?+

This course targets the competitive player refining their game under pressure. The selection of drills, the targeted observables and the AI's feedback tone are calibrated to that level — neither too basic nor too technical.

How long does it take to complete?+

The course is structured in 5 steps of video drills. Total estimated time on-court is around 5 minutes spread across multiple sessions — most users complete it over 2 to 4 weeks at the rate of 1 to 2 sessions per week.

What will I actually learn?+

The course focuses on short serve, long serve and their tactical variants in singles and doubles. Each step isolates one observable (a measurable aspect of the stroke or movement), films your reps, and the AI scores you with a personalized improvement axis.

Do I need a partner or coach?+

All steps in this course require a partner — either to feed shuttles in a controlled rhythm or to play themed exchanges. The AI replaces the coach's eye for technical feedback — you stay in control of when and how you train.

How much does it cost?+

The first step is free (STARTER plan). Unlocking the rest requires a BASIC subscription at €9/month — unlimited courses, no commitment.
