Why this course

Surviving a 1v2 defensive overload by organizing court coverage and choosing exit trajectories that don't re-arm the opponent's attack.

Theory

The Context

The 1v2 situation is artificial in singles, but it's an excellent pedagogical laboratory for stressing defense. Faced with two alternating attackers, the player must accept that they won't be able to retrieve everything, and learn to choose their battles.

The Concept

Three principles guide outnumbered defense:

  • Compactness: position yourself slightly back, near the court's diagonal, to cover maximum surface area.
  • High and Long Exit Trajectories: a deep lift buys time. A well-placed short push can break the rhythm. The horizontal drive is to be avoided — it re-arms the attack.
  • Reading the Hitter's Posture: at 2 fps, the hitter's posture is the best predictor of the attack zone.

How This Course Is Structured

We first work on defense against attacks on two known zones, then against random attacks, then in a real 1v2 game with attack limited to the high mid-court, and finally in a themed match.

To Go Further

  • Counter-attack from Defense — to turn defense into an opportunity.
  • Construction in Disadvantageous Situations — to avoid getting into defense in the first place.

Frequently asked
Who is this badminton course for?+

This course targets the competitive player refining their game under pressure. The selection of drills, the targeted observables and the AI's feedback tone are calibrated to that level — neither too basic nor too technical.

How long does it take to complete?+

The course is structured in 4 steps of video drills. Total estimated time on-court is around 4 minutes spread across multiple sessions — most users complete it over 2 to 4 weeks at the rate of 1 to 2 sessions per week.

What will I actually learn?+

The course focuses on high defense, lift and escaping unfavorable zones. Each step isolates one observable (a measurable aspect of the stroke or movement), films your reps, and the AI scores you with a personalized improvement axis.

Do I need a partner or coach?+

All steps in this course require a partner — either to feed shuttles in a controlled rhythm or to play themed exchanges. The AI replaces the coach's eye for technical feedback — you stay in control of when and how you train.

How much does it cost?+

This OTTHN course is reserved for PRO subscribers (€39/month). The first step is accessible with a BASIC plan to discover the competitive approach before upgrading.
