Counter-Attack from a Defensive Position
Transforming a disadvantageous situation into an offensive opportunity: choosing the right moment to switch from a defensive lift to a counter-drive or a finishing lift.

Transform a defensive position into an offensive opportunity by identifying the moment when a counter drive or a finishing lift becomes possible.
The Context
Passive defense—responding to every attack with a deep lift—is necessary but insufficient. A defender who doesn't know how to counter-attack will suffer indefinitely. Counter-attacking is what distinguishes a passive defender from a dangerous one.
The Concept
Two moments for counter-attacking exist:
- The counter-drive: On a weak or poorly placed smash, return the shuttle flat to the hitter's side. Effect: immediately reverse the balance of power.
- The finishing lift: On a poorly played opponent's drop shot, lift to the extreme deep zone to create imbalance.
The trigger criterion is observing the quality of the opponent's attack: if it's degraded (speed, precision), the window is open.
How This Course Is Structured
We first work on firm defense (lift), then the counter-drive on weak smashes, then the defense → counter sequence, then in-game application, and finally in themed matches.
To Go Further
- Counter-attacking S2 Style — the overall strategy that relies on this mechanism.
- Very Unfavorable 1v2 Defense — for pure resistance.

Who is this badminton course for?+
This course targets the competitive player refining their game under pressure. The selection of drills, the targeted observables and the AI's feedback tone are calibrated to that level — neither too basic nor too technical.
How long does it take to complete?+
The course is structured in 5 steps of video drills. Total estimated time on-court is around 5 minutes spread across multiple sessions — most users complete it over 2 to 4 weeks at the rate of 1 to 2 sessions per week.
What will I actually learn?+
The course focuses on high defense, lift and escaping unfavorable zones. Each step isolates one observable (a measurable aspect of the stroke or movement), films your reps, and the AI scores you with a personalized improvement axis.
Do I need a partner or coach?+
All steps in this course require a partner — either to feed shuttles in a controlled rhythm or to play themed exchanges. The AI replaces the coach's eye for technical feedback — you stay in control of when and how you train.
How much does it cost?+
This OTTHN course is reserved for PRO subscribers (€39/month). The first step is accessible with a BASIC plan to discover the competitive approach before upgrading.
